- PE: PE rain ponchos are gradually becoming less common; due to their low durability, they are prone to tearing and are suitable only for emergency use.
Reusable Rain Ponchos:
- Polyester: Polyester is a commonly used material for mid-to-high-end or durable ponchos; typically serving as the base fabric, it is enhanced with a waterproof coating to achieve a lightweight, waterproof, and abrasion-resistant finish.
- Oxford Fabric: Oxford cloth is a thick fabric woven from polyester or nylon. It is used for heavy-duty rain ponchos and possesses exceptional abrasion and tear resistance; however, it is also heavier in weight, making it well-suited for outdoor workers and outdoor cycling.
Waterproof Coatings:
• PVC Coating: Applying a PVC coating directly to the fabric—or laminating it with a PVC film—provides strong waterproofing capabilities, but offers poor breathability and environmental friendliness.
• PU Coating: PU coatings are extremely common in outdoor fabrics and apparel; they can be lightweight and soft, while offering robust waterproofing capabilities.
